Science applications

These applications can be installed for you, but will only be installed if needed for project work. Some will have been pre-installed on systems based on advice from project supervisors. If you need something on this list and it's not already installed, or if it's not listed at all, then ask Robert or Malachy for help.

  • IDL - only available for solar physics projects due to license requirements
  • IDL libraries - commonly used third party packages
  • Mathematica
  • Matlab
  • Starlink Software Collection - including Gaia (Graphical Astronomy and Image Analysis Tool)
  • Aladin - interactive sky atlas
  • SAOImage DS9 - FITS viewer, including the Funtools analysis package
  • MESA - Modules for Experiments in Stellar Astrophysics
  • TopCat - Tool for OPerations on Catalogues And Tables
  • Python 2.7, 3.5, or 3.6 - can be installed to the user home directory via Anaconda; installers can be pre-loaded for your convenience.

Access to these applications is mostly accomplished using Environment Modules.
